In celebrating our 10 years of co-operative success in 2003, UFCC agents Doug and Kerry Smith must be acknowledged as one of many who have made significant contribution from the very beginning.
Doug and Kerry's involvement with UFCC started from day one. They have become active participants in conveying the Co-operative message to farmers, ensuring they experience the benefits of joining UFCC.
"UFCC puts money back into the local community and therefore this support is integral in helping farms and rural towns prosper in the future".
As agents, Doug and Kerry service farmers in the Kent shire and Lakes region. Doug's knowledge and many years experience in farming and broadacre spraying is also utilised by members and agents from surrounding areas.
Doug spends most of his time on farm with shareholders, planning fertiliser programs, doing crop inspections, leaf testing, soil testing and analysing results. Doug also offers GPS based soil mapping and testing.
Alongside his agent responsibilities, Doug continues to runt he family farm, which he believes is of great benefit to himself and members in his area.
"Being a UFCC agent and a farmer, I am able to trial and implement soil management skills I have learnt under the supervision of Hans Schoof. I have a greater understanding of the importance of soil testing and how soil health hinges on choosing the right product to complement soil conditions.
This valuable knowledge I can share with other members to ensure that at the end of the season, they are seeing optimum results."
