Continuing Our Support of Rural Youth

"Rural Youth" is currently a hot topic around the agricultural sector of WA with young people perceived to be the diminishing population in local communities. While many believe that farming and country living provide the best lifestyle and opportunities, many rural kids go to boarding school or leave home to pursue, what they believe, is a more exciting and higher yielding opportunity away from their home towns. As a result, there is a strong need for agricultural companies and other organisations to become more proactive in creating attractive incentives and opportunities for our rural youth that will direct them further North, East and South of Perth!

By creating work experience opportunities within our organisation, UFCC provides ongoing support and training for young people to gain skills and understanding that can be transferred to their chosen careers within the agricultural sector.

Importantly, there is a strong potential for these skilled young people to return to rural areas and provide additional professional input to their communities.

United Farmers Co-operative is proud of the achievements of rural youth and is keen to support any initiative that will enhance the prospects of those who wish to contribute to an exciting and innovative future.

Looking for Community Sponsorship?
At United Farmers, we understand that fundraising in rural communities can be a difficult task so we established our Community Sponsorship program. We're all about supporting family farms and their communities, and this program provides us with another opportunity to do just that. Through the program, United Farmers sponsors a variety of sporting and service clubs, P & C associations and individual community projects across the State.

If you are involved in a community project of some kind and would like to make an application for sponsorship from United Farmers, please submit a written request to your nearest locacl Regional Sales Manager or Agent.
Sponsorship can be provided in a variety of forms including financial donations, products or merchandising. Each request will be assessed on its merits and our desire to spread the program's benefit across our shareholder base.

Woolpro in Schools Sponsorship (WA Dept Ag)
'Woolpro In Schools' is an educational scheme run by the West Australian Department of Agriculture. Initially started to inform agricultural students on the wool industry in WA, it now seeks to educate students from a wide variety of agricultural colleges and highschools on the many aspects of WA's agricultural industry. It is hoped that this education will lead to greater interest from students in this industry and provide a good basis from which they can launch their future agricultural careers.

UFCC's financial contribution went towards the provision of a scholarship to two young WA agricultural students. One of this year's recipients was WA College of Agriculture-Cunderdin student, Brent Wittwer. The money will go towards his school fees as well as give him the opportunity to participate in work experience with the WA Department of Agriculture.

Angel Flight (Avon Rayner Ride)
Angel Flight Australia is a charity that co-ordinates non-emergency flights for financially and medically needy people. All flights are free and assist patients or compassionate carers travelling to or from medical facilities anywhere in Australia.

As part of his Scotch College Personal Project, Avon Rayner chose to raise money for this cause. He chose this foundation as a way of showing his appreciation for the work they did for his cousin, Zoe Alexander, who was flown by Angel Flight between Geraldton and Perth several times during her specialist treatment for leukaemia. In order to raise money, he organised a Rideathon Relay from Moora to Carnamah. In support of this worthy cause, UFCC and its Carnamah Agent, Jenny McDonald, made both a financial contribution and gave items to be used in a raffle.

Calista Primary School - Nesting Box Project Sponsorship
United Farmers Co-operative is proud to have assisted Calista Primary School with their Nesting Box Project.

When school began in 2004, students, parents and members of the community expressed their outrage at a large amount of clear felling that took place in their area, especially as it was an area known to hold a large number of brushtail possums. In response to the devastation of many animals' homes and the concerns local residents were having housing them in their ceilings, Calista Primary School (along with teacher Charlie Ballard) started constructing nesting boxes. Due to the costs of supplies and preparation, the school eventually decided to start requesting support from local and prominent business to assist in getting boxes around their entire community. United Farmers Co-operative were one of the businesses to provide financial support.

To date, this project has been a fantastic success and continues to attract attention and support from throughout the region.
